San Francisco
there are countless great restaurants in SF but these are the ones I go to over and over...
Saru Sushi - a neighborhood spot with delicious, fresh sushi
Pizzeria Delfina - fantastic pizza and wine; if the weather is agreeable sit outside
Flour + Water - we love this restaurant so much we had our wedding dinner here
Frances - neighborhood restaurant with fantastic food (get the bacon beignets and duck liver mousse)
La Taqueria - best tacos in SF. From there you can hit up the Phonebooth (dive bar) or Clancys (another dive bar)
Plow - my absolute favorite breakfast spot in SF.
Shopping
Hayes Valley (grab ice cream from Smitten while you're there)
Case for Making - this lovely shop is more than an art supply store; it is a supportive community that inspires artists of all ages.
Heath Ceramics - this space is gorgeous and they have incredible items (you can grab a cocktail at Trick Dog or have a nice lunch outside at Salumeria if you're in the neighborhood)
Aggregate Supply & Lexington Standard - my very dear friend Mark owns these two fantastic shops. Clothing, housewares, and delightful surprises.
Japantown (for everything you never knew you needed)
Mission (Valencia between 20th and 15th)
Driving distance to SF
Healdsburg - fantastic wine tasting, great food, warm weather
Guernville - a fun weekend getaway
Los Angeles
Grand Central Market [especially Egg Slut and G&B Coffee]
Gjelina - pizza, pasta, salads, and cocktails
Santa Barbara
the Shop Café - great breakfast spot
